A Donkey’s Story －Anonymous

One day a farmer’s donkey fell down into a well.The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally,he decided the animal was old,and the well is needed to be covered up anyway;it just wasn’t worth it to retrieve the donkey.

一天，有位农夫的驴子掉进了井里。在农夫想办法救它时，驴子在井里哀嚎了几个小时。最后农夫想，既然驴子已经老了，再说那口井也要填平，不值得费劲把驴子救起来。

He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him.They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first,the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly.Then,to everyone’s amazement he quieted.

于是他请他的邻居一起过来帮忙，他们都拿起铁铲，开始往井里抛土。起初，驴子意识到自己将要发生什么事了，所以开始狂叫，过了一会让所有人感到奇怪，它安静了。

A few shovel loads later,the farmer finally looked down the well.He was astonished at what he saw.With each shovel of dirt that hit his back,the donkey was doing something amazing.He would shake it off and take a step up.

几铲土填入井里后，农夫向井下看了看，他被眼前的一幕惊呆了。当每一铲土倒在驴子背上时，让人惊讶，它抖抖背上的土，然后把土垫在脚下。

As the farmer’s neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal,he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon,everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of  the well and happily trotted off !

农夫和他的邻居们继续填土，驴子每抖下身上的土就可以使自己站得更高一点。很快，驴子已经站到井边，并得意得快步跑开了！眼前的这一幕，让所有人为之惊讶。
